The aims of the Association
A.I.I.G. is a qualified Association for the training of the teaching staff, accredited to the MIUR (D. M. 27.02.2003).
It is an Institution dealing with the culture of the territory .
It is Member of the European Standing Conference of Geography Teachers.
It is an Association for the Environmental Protection.

BETWEEN RESEARCH AND DIDACTICS FOR 50 YEARS

The AIIG, founded in Padua on April 22nd, 1954, has local Branches in all the Italian Regions and in almost all the Italian Provinces. The Association in fact, is made up of Regional Branches, that can be divided into Provincial, Interprovincial and City Branches.

The Italian Association of Geography Teachers works in order to fulfil the following aims:
  • promoting the meeting of geography teachers from any educational background and course of study;
  • fostering scientific and didactic refresher courses for geography teachers and promoting the relationship with other subjects;
  • promoting the research and experimentation in teaching methodology in order to make teaching more and more effective;
  • protecting the teaching of geography in all the schools and institutions;
  • spreading the geographic education and culture at any level;
  • promoting the environmental knowledge and protection in the framework of a proper geographic and ecological education, according to a more functional management of the territory;
  • promoting the mutual international knowledge and understanding, the respect for multiculturality and diversity and the rights of all the populations to development and progress;
  • keeping in touch and exchanging experiences with other similar associations in Italy and abroad, particularly within the European Community; encouraging transnational projects, especially the ones devoted to the development of the European dimension.

JOIN THE AIIG

Becoming a member of the AIIG allows:
  • to receive for free the journal “Ambiente Società Territorio - Geografia nelle scuole" (“Environment Society Territory – Geography in the schools”) and other teaching material produced by the AIIG for its members;
  • to take part in national, regional and local Conventions;;
  • to attend training courses and refresher courses;;
  • to take part in conferences and other events, also in cooperation with schools, other institutions and associations which share the same objectives;;
  • to take part in educational trips lasting one or more days, in Italy and abroad;;
  • to appoint the members of the governing body of the Association, taking part in the national, regional and provincial elections and then, being directly involved in the management of the AIIG.;


How to become a member
To become a member it is needed the payment (from September 1st to May 5th) of the subscription dues (euros 27 for “Active Members” - euros 12 for “Junior Members” and students, including the journal): At the Regional Branch you belong to
or
through bank transfer to the current account n. 6908/30, registered in: “Associazione Italiana Insegnanti di Geografia”, Banca di Roma, Filiale Roma 92, Piazza Cavour, Roma (ABI 3002.3 – CAB 05101.1).

Members of AIIG can be:
  • primary and secondary school teachers and university professors;
  • schools and institutions with geographic aims or interests;
  • connoisseurs or experts on geographic subjects;
  • members’ relatives who want to take part in the events promoted by the AIIG, without receiving the journal;
  • young university students who are not involved in professional activities.
